Kickboxing Team Returns Home With Silver, Bronze Medals

The National Kickboxing Team on Wednesday returned home with one silver and three bronze medals from the Asian Kickboxing Confederation (WAKO Asia) Championships 2016/17 in Turkmenistan.

Rohullah Dehqanzada from the national kickboxing team clinched silver for Afghanistan and said he was very happy about his achievement.

He said he would continue his efforts “to bring more pride to the country in future”.

The head of Afghanistan National Kickboxing Federation, Dastgir Panjshiri, said he appreciates the “considerable” achievements made by the national kickboxing team at the international event in the past two weeks.

He said more than 60 countries participated in Turkmenistan. 

Turkmenistan emerged as the most successful country in the championships at the Martial Arts Arena in the Ashgabat Olympic Complex.

The home country won a total of 27 gold, 25 silver and 23 bronze medals to lead the medal table, while Iran, with 22 gold, nine silver and 12 bronze came in second overall.

The federation’s head said the Afghan team did extremely well at the international event that drew contestants from over 60 countries.
