National MMA Champ Off To Tajikistan To Face Russian Rival

A member of the national mixed martial arts (MMA) team, Wali Hotak, on Wednesday left Afghanistan for Tajikistan where he will face his Russian rival in an upcoming MMA cage fight.

The contest will take place on Saturday evening in Dushanbe.

The Russian fighter has seven wins to his name in MMA cage fighting.

“I promise that Afghanistan will win,” Hotak said on his departure to Tajikistan.

“The match is organized by the ACB which is an international organization through which many athletes find their way to EFC (Extreme Fighting Championships). I hope that I will find my way to EFC after this match.”

“We have had three months of preparations. We are well prepared and besides that we need the prayers of the Afghan people to win the fight,” said Khaibar Omarkhail, Hotak’s coach.

Hotak first entered the MMA ring in 2008 and has had nine major fights to date, all of which he has won.

In amateur and free fights, he has 10 wins to his name and has not been defeated so far.
