Rashid Keeps Shining in Australia’s BBL

The Afghan National Cricket Team leg-spinner Rashid Khan is still shining for Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and claimed two wickets for the Strikers’ victory over Brisbane Heat.

The Strikers won easily on New Year’s Eve, bowling Brisbane Heat out for 91 off less than 17 overs on the way to a 56-run victory.

After the debut match of Rashid, the Strikers captain Travis Head said spin sensation Rashid Khan was an indispensable member of their team's “bowling barometer’’ and the key to their BBL campaign.

Rashid produced a man-of-the-match performance in the Strikers’ opening-round win against the Sydney Thunder. Head says his ability to put opposition batsmen in a spin can carry the team a long way.

“He’s the benchmark for us in our bowling,’’ Head said.

“Rashid is our barometer and set the tone the other night (against the Thunder).

“He got some crucial wickets and broke the game open, broke it apart, in a match-winning performance.

“He’s crucial in the middle overs for us and if we can get a couple of wickets early at the top of the order he can break things open for us in the middle of the innings.’’

Rashid is first Afghan play in the BBL.

“We were probably a little bit rough in our practice matches but we played extremely well the other night and we know how important this game is,’’ he said.

“If we can go into our New Year’s Eve game (against the Brisbane Heat) with two wins, it will stand us in good stead.’’
