U-19 Cricket Team Through To Youth Asia Cup Semi-Finals

With the need to drastically push up their net run-rate and win with a bonus point in order to have a chance of progressing to the next stage, Afghanistan produced a scintillating display with both bat and ball to defeat a hapless Singapore side by nine wickets.

Singapore have easily been the weakest team on view in the Youth Asia Cup, and they underlined their status as minnows as they were bowled out for a score in the seventies for the third straight time.

Bowling first, Afghanistan were buoyed by four-fours from Yousuf Zazai and Wafadar Momand as Singapore succumbed to 73-all out in just 18.2 overs.

In reply, Darwish Rasooli went on a boundary hitting spree, smashing one bowler after another as he cracked a fifty in just 15 balls.

Off the second over, he slammed Ansh Bhargava for four fours, before smashing one six and four fours off the five balls he faced in the next over bowled by him.

He ended the misery for Singapore with a four off the first ball off the fifth over to complete the match.

They ended with the bonus point and managed to secure qualification to the semi-final.

Brief Scores: Singapore U19 73 (Yuvraj Singh 14; Yousif Zazai 4-11, Wafadar Momand 4-13) lost to Afghanistan U19 75 for 1 in 4.1 overs (Darwish Rasooli 53 off 15 balls) by 9 wickets

The team will play India on Tuesday in the semi-final round of the competitions.
