Afghanistan’s Karate Team Brings Home Seven Gold Medals

Afghanistan’s Ashura Hara Karate team won seven gold and two bronze medals at the Ashura Hara Karate Europe and Asia Open Championships which was held in Astana, Kazakhstan last week, the Department of Physical Education and Sports (DPES) reported on Monday.

“Abdul Shaker Hamid, Afghan athletes were the best fighters at the Championships,” said DPES adding that “Afghanistan finished in second place overall after winning seven gold and two bronze medals.”

“Kazakhstan finished first and Russia third,” the department said.

The championships were held from Friday to Sunday and 14 European and Asian countries took part.
