Global Coalition Calls For Increase In Pressure On Daesh

Foreign Ministers from 68 countries on Wednesday and Thursday attended the Global Coalition session in Washington which was organized by the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to review and accelerate the campaign for the lasting defeat of Daesh.

The acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani represented Afghanistan at the event.

At the event, Tillerson pointed to the attack on Sardar Daud Hospital in Kabul and said pressure must be put on Daesh by the Global Coalition.

“We know military strength will stop ISIS on a battlefield but it is the combined strength of our coalition that will be the final blow to ISIS. In order to stay ahead of a global outbreak, we must all adopt the following counter-measures. First, continue to persist with in-country counter-terrorism and law enforcement operations.

“All of us must maintain pressure on ISIS's networks within our own countries and take decisive law enforcement action to stop its growth. ISIS is connected across every continent and we must work to break every link in its chain,” he stated.

Meanwhile, NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller said: “We adapted even more. We deployed our largest combat mission to ensure that Afghanistan would never again become a home and a platform for international terrorists.”

The Global Coalition issued a statement where they commended the Afghan government’s efforts in the fight against Daesh.

“We commend the efforts of the Government of Afghanistan, along with its National Defense and Security Forces, in the fight against ISIS and in implementing its National Strategy against ISIS,” the statement said.
