Iraq's PM Upbeat About Trump Administration

Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was on Monday positive about the new U.S administration following a day of talks with President Donald Trump and his cabinet, the Associated Press reported.

Speaking at the United States Institute of Peace, al-Abadi said he felt the Trump team is "more engaged" with the subject of fighting terrorism than that of former president Barack Obama.

He said: "I can sense a difference in terms of being head-to-head with terrorism. I think they're prepared to do more to fight terrorism.”

According to AP, Trump said: "We just spent a few minutes speaking in the Oval Office and learning and giving each other ideas. One of the things I did ask is why did President (Barack) Obama sign that (nuclear) agreement with Iran, because nobody's been able to figure that one out. But, maybe, someday, we'll be able to figure that out.”

In his first meeting with al-Abadi, Trump said Iran is one of the issues his team will discuss with the Iraqi delegation during their visit.

Trump said that they will also address what he calls the "vacuum" that was created when Daesh claimed significant areas of Iraq.

AP also reported Trump as having said the U.S "shouldn't have gone in" to Iraq in the first place.
