10 Civilians Killed In Samangan Clash

At least 10 civilians have been killed in a clash between Taliban members and residents of Darah Sof Payan district of Samangan province, local officials said Monday. 

Ahmad Siddiq Azizi the governor’s spokesman said the clash started on Sunday at around 11am in Gola village after the Taliban tried to get usher and zakat (taxes) from the villagers.  

According to Azizi the clash lasted for two hours and ten local residents including a woman were killed and eight others were wounded. 

Seven Taliban insurgents were also killed in the clash, Azizi added. 

Azizi said that security forces were deployed to the area on Monday morning.

He also said village security was maintained by local residents and that there is no police presence in the village. 

Taliban has claimed responsibility.
