Afghan Women Announce Their Stance On Peace

At least 700 women from around the country who attended women’s national conference on peace released their stance in a 15-article declaration on Friday.

Ceasefire between the warring parties, making a sustainable peace, preserving the achievements of the past 18 years, enforcing the law against strongmen, fighting corruption and supporting the Afghan armed forces are part of the declaration.

“We strongly condemn any outline for an interim government and we want the [presidential] elections to be held,” said Hasina Safi, Acting Minister of Information and Culture.

The women said the peace should not be compromised for political purposes and that the rights of women should not be ignored in this process.

“Women’s voices will not be ignored,” said Kawida Sediqi, member of Women Consultative Committee for Peace.

The declaration asks the warring parties to immediately announce a ceasefire and continue peace talks.

“Now it has been proved for the Afghan women that they should raise their voices in the peace process,” said Zuhra Yusuf, an advisor to First Lady Rula Ghani.
