Afghanistan have been placed alongside Oman, India, Bangladesh and Qatar following the draw for the second round of Asian Qualifiers, held at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Afghanistan national football team, placed in Group E, will get to play these aforementioned opponents over the next one year in their second-round joint qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and China 2023 Asian Cup.
Host Qatar currently ranked 55th in the latest FIFA ranking who facing Oman 86th, India 101st, Afghanistan 149th and Bangladesh 183rd.
The 40 Asian countries were divided into eight groups of five teams each. All the teams in each group will play home-and-away round-robin matches from September 5 to June 9, 2020.
The eight group winners and four best runners-up will advance to the AFC Asian Cup China 2023 finals and the final round of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
However, should Qatar win its group, the seven other group winners and five best second-placed sides will advance to the final round of qualifying for the World Cup.
The next best 24 teams from the second round of the joint qualifiers will compete in a separate competition for the remaining 12 slots in the 24-team AFC Asian Cup.
