Afghanistan Will Succeed In Peace And War: Ghani

Addressing ceremony to mark the National Day of Afghan Defense and Security Forces President Ashraf Ghani said never-before coordination has been created among the security agencies in the country.

Other main participants at the event were Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Defense Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak, NDS Chief Masoom Stanekzai and former security ministers.

Ghani also bestowed medals and ranks on officers and generals of all security agencies.

“You the honest sons of this country succeeded to ensure Afghanistan’s preservation. Today, brothers and sisters, the preservation of Afghanistan is not in doubt,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said government is committed to holding the upcoming elections on time.

“An important achievement of the year 1397 (March 2017 to March 2018) and 1398 (March 2018 to March 2019) will be the parliamentary and district councils as well as the presidential elections,” he added.

Chief Executive Abdullah meanwhile commended Afghan forces and said the best times of his life is when he is among the defense and security forces.

He called on security agencies to carry on their activities but while distanced from political issues.

“No politics except national interests should be dominant among our security force members, in leadership levels and in all levels,” he said.

Security heads termed the country’s situation as tough but said they will continue to fight terrorists.

“Your brave security and defense forces (of Afghanistan) are serving the people and the homeland under a very tough condition,” Bahrami said.

“The war has been imposed on us. We defend our country, our honor and national integrity,” Barmak said.

“Afghanistan no more sees any chance for establishment of power islands,” Stanekzai said.

At this event, the Afghan Army Chief of Staff Sharif Yaftali was promoted to General from Lieutenant General.

Between 10 to 50 officers from every security agency were promoted and given medals by the president during this event. Families of those soldiers who lost their lives and wounded security force members were also given cash by government.
