China Supports SCO's Efforts for Afghanistan's Peace

During a meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Moscow, Russia, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed the organization's peace-building efforts in Afghanistan.

The meeting was aimed at discussing regional security and stability, in which, the Chinese Minister warned the SCO members against the resurgence of terrorism, extremism, and separatism in the region, which he mentioned as "the three evil forces."

He called on SCO-member countries to play a constructive role in guaranteeing regional security and stability, believing it an obligation on the organization.

The SCO members should take security cooperation as a priority and build the SCO into a reliable platform for promoting peace, stability and development, Wang said at the conference.

Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, who represented Afghanistan at the conference, mentioned terrorism as the biggest threat to the region and world.

He called on the SCO countries to help Afghanistan in fighting terrorism.

In addition, Rabbani noted at the conference that Afghanistan was willing to gain full membership of the organization.

Currently, six countries have permanent membership of the organization while five others including Afghanistan are observer states.

This comes as the Taliban in a statement on Friday confirmed the on-going talks between the Taliban and Afghan officials in Norway.

However, the statement said the talks were informal and couldn't be considered as peace negotiations.

The Taliban statement came a day after Norwegian media on Thursday reported that a delegation of Afghan women were currently holding informal talks with Taliban representatives in the City of Oslo.

Fawzia Kofi and Shukria Barekzai, members of parliament, along with Hawa Alam Nuristani, a member of Afghanistan's High Peace Council (HPC), are reportedly representing Afghan women in the talks which have entered the second day.
