Commandos Conduct 82 Special Operations In 24 Hours

Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Sunday said in the last 24 hours Commandos have conducted 82 special operations in different provinces across the country.

According to the defense ministry, battles are ongoing in nine provinces - Faryab, Jawzjan, Baghlan, Badghis, Uruzgan, Helmand, Nangarhar, Farah and Ghazni.

The MoD’s deputy spokesman Mohammad Radmanish said about 60 insurgents have been killed in these operations.

According to Radmanish, 10 other operations are also ongoing in these nine provinces, which are being conducted by other security forces.

“Ten operations have been launched and are ongoing in the nine provinces with security threats,” said Radmanish. Security forces also suffered five casualties, he said.

The Chief Executive Officer’s deputy spokesman Jawed Faisal meanwhile said Afghan Air Force and security forces have the ability to prevent cities from collapsing to the Taliban.

“Afghanistan forces, air and land forces, have been equipped with better equipment and cities and provincial centers will not collapse,” said Faisal.

A number of members of parliament, however, raised concerns over security threats and blasted security officials over poor war management.

“Security forces’ action does not seem to be effective,” Iqbal Safi, head of parliament’s defense commission said.

“If commandos leave the districts, the areas will collapse again,” MP Gul Mohammad Rasuli said.

The defense ministry meanwhile acknowledged that military equipment was seized by insurgents following the collapse of a number of districts and villages, but they have tried to destroy the equipment.
