Dostum’s Guards Get 8 Years In Prison For Eshchi Assault
Kabul city’s PD2 primary court on Wednesday reportedly sentenced seven of First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum’s bodyguards to eight years in prison for the illegal imprisonment and sexual assault of Ahmad Eshchi, the former Jawzjan provincial governor, Eshchi himself said.
Eshchi told TOLOnews Dostum’s guards did not appear in court and that the judge issued the sentence in their absence.
The bodyguards were sentenced to three years for the illegal imprisonment of Eshchi and five years in prison for sexual assault.
“Based on article 414 and 429 of the criminal executive code they were sentenced to three and five years in prison,” said Eshchi.
The court has not said anything in this regard, but Eshchi said until Dostum is sentenced by the Supreme Court justice will not have been served. He said if this does not happen not happen he will complain to the international court.
“Although court has the authority to issue sentences in the absence of people, it would be better to have them appear in court,” said Ainuddin Bahaduri, a member of Afghanistan’s Lawyers Union.
TOLOnews failed to get comment from Dostum’s office in this regard.
