Dostum Accuses Ghani Of Misusing Govt Resources

First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum, who is supporting Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah in the upcoming presidential election, on Sunday accused President Ashraf Ghani and his election campaign team of misusing government resources for campaign purposes.

Addressing his supporters at a gathering in Jawzjan province on the first day of Eid al-Adha, Mr. Dostum blamed Mr. Ghani for the current crisis in the country.

He said that he had warned at the beginning of the National Unity Government not to use Afghanistan’s security agencies for political purposes but he added that this demand by him was accepted in principle but was not implemented.

Dostum said that Mr. Ghani says in his campaign slogans that he will end bullying and will fight against strongmen and those who violate the law.

He said he knows that Mr. Ghani is referring to him (Dostum) in his campaign slogans but according to him, the government itself is violating the law.

“We are a dictator or you the ‘State Builder’ team? You are misusing government resources. You are using customs money. You are using government-owned planes,” Dostum said.

Mr. Dostum said that “no foreign official and Afghan politician is happy from Ghani”.

Mr. Dostum criticized former NDS chief Amrullah Saleh for joining Ghani’s campaign saying he should have followed National Hero Ahmad Shah Massoud’s pathway as he was “grown” with him.

“Any religious scholar who supports the ‘State Builder’ team has committed a mistake. I am sorry for Amrullah Saleh. I am sorry to the loss of those whose lives were taken for this team,” Mr. Dostum said, referring to an attack on Mr. Saleh’s political office in which more than 20 people were killed.
