The former head of Afghanistan Football Federation, Keramuddin Karim, who is accused of sexual abuse of women footballers, has not been arrested so far and there is no exact information about his whereabouts, despite an arrest warrant has been issued for him, according to an official and two lawmakers.    

On June 8, FIFA banned Karim from football for life for sexually abusing female players. He was also fined 1 million Swiss francs ($1 million).

The Attorney General’s Office spokesman Jamshid Rasuli said the authority will make a decision if more actions are needed on the case.

An official of the Ministry of Interior said efforts are underway to arrest Karim.

The delay in arresting the former head of the football federation was criticized by a number of MPs.

“Powerful people are supported by politicians, therefore, they are not brought to justice,” said Nadir Baluch, a lawmaker.

“It is a politically-influenced issue,” said Fatima Aziz, an MP.

One member of the Integrity Watch Afghanistan, a Kabul-based monitoring organization, said the Ministry of Interior has not paid the required attention to the case.

“Law enforcement, prevention of crimes and issues of rule of law have not been put first by the Ministry of Interior. We are facing a serious problem in the rule of law,” said Nasir Timori, a member of the Integrity Watch Afghanistan.
