Faryab Woman Killed By Brother In ‘Honor Killing’

A young woman was stabbed to death by her brother in Faryab province on Wednesday in what appears to have been an honor killing, officials confirmed.

According to local officials the incident happened in Andkhoy district of the province. 

The district governor, Sultan Mohammad Sanjar, confirmed the incident and said the young woman, Raana, had eloped with a young man. 

Together the two went to court to get married. However, the court sent her to a place of safety. 

The district governor said the brother tracked his sister down and managed to gain access into the place of safety, where he allegedly stabbed her to death. 

Local officials said the suspect has been arrested.  

Sanjar said at least 14 people have either been murdered or committed suicide in Faryab so far this year.

This come two weeks after a Nangarhar man was arrested in connection with the death of at least six members of his uncle’s family. 

Officials said the man killed his relatives in Behsod district of Nangarhar province.

According to them, the man, Zarif, was armed with a firearm when he entered his uncle’s house and started shooting. 

He killed his uncle, Salam, his uncle’s wife and four of their sons – who were aged between 20 and 35 years old. 

In addition, two children were also wounded in the shooting, officials said. 

Nangarhar police said the suspect was arrested after the shooting and immediately confessed to the crime. According to officials the man said he had done it due to personal disputes.
