President Ashraf Ghani appointed new head and commissioners for Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, President Ghani’s spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
Sediqqi said Shahrzad Akbar, an advisor to the National Security Council, was appointed as the new chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, replacing with former chairperson Sima Samar, who ran the post for the past 18 years.
Samar was appointed as President Ghani’s Special Envoy and State Minister for Human Rights Affairs and International Relations, Seddiqi said.
Seddiqi, however, did not name the new commissioners.
