Ghani Visits Dasht-e-Archi Victims In Kabul Hospital

On Saturday evening, President Ashraf Ghani visited some of the Kunduz air strike victims being treated at the Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan Hospital in Kabul, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

A number of civilians, wounded in Monday’s air strike on Daftani village in Dasht-e-Archi, were transferred to the Kabul hospital for further treatment, the statement read.

The Presidential Palace said that during his visit, Ghani ordered the doctors to ensure the wounded received proper treatment and that staff make sure everything possible is done to help them recover.

According to the statement, Ghani promised the victims his task team would investigate the incident thoroughly.

Ghani said civilian casualties in security forces’ operations was unacceptable and that Afghan soldiers need to be more cautious in future.

On Monday, the Afghan air force carried out an air strike on a madrassa in Taliban-controlled Daftani village. According to government, two helicopters used in the air strike targeted at Taliban gathering.

However, residents and the Taliban denied these reports and said a graduation ceremony was being conducted at the madrassa at the time of the air strike.

Government said 50 Taliban members had been killed and 150 wounded. However residents claimed the death toll was much higher and that only civilians had been killed.

Following conflicting reports, Ghani assigned a fact-finding team to investigate the incident.
