India, China Launch Project To Train Afghan Diplomats

India and China have launched their first joint initiative to train Afghanistan’s diplomats.

An understanding with Afghanistan to launched the program was reached during an informal meeting between India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in April.

According to officials from both countries, 10 Afghan diplomats are in India from this week for a 12-day training program.

The Indian Embassy in Beijing meanwhile tweeted on Saturday that the “First joint program by India and China for Afghanistan begins.”

On Monday, India’s Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of External Affairs tweeted that the joint training program for the Afghan diplomats will run from October 15 to 26 and will be held at the foreign service institute.

On Saturday, India’s ambassador to Kabul, Vinay Kumar hosted the 10 Afghan diplomats at the embassy in Kabul before they left for India.
