Insecurity Hardens Access To Logar’s Azra District

Insecurity and a clash in Azra district in Logar has closed ways connecting the district to other parts of the eastern province which has 78 kilometers distance with the city of Kabul.

Azra district has 140 meters distance with Kabul. A lawmaker from the province said that military convoys and traders cannot travel to the district as the ways have been closed by militants.

Azra district has 90 kilometers distance with the center of Logar, the city of Pul-e-Alam, and has almost 90 villages. It shares borders with Paktia and Nangarhar province and parts of it are located along the Durand Line – the de facto border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“Security forces have no food. There is no one to transfer those soldiers who are wounded… People cannot find food in Azra district,” said Huma Ahmadi, an MP from Logar.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Ministry of Defense, Rohullah Ahmadzai, said efforts are underway to overcome the “tough situation” in Logar’s district.

“The Defense and Security Forces have special and proper plans on hand to overcome the problem,” he told TOLOnews on Saturday, June 29.
