Kabul Rally Demands Ceasefire Between Govt And Taliban

Dozens of Afghans from different parts of the country in peaceful rally on Friday called for a short term ceasefire between government and the Taliban in order to carry on the peace talks.

Organizers of the rally titled ‘National Community of Ceasefire and Peace’ said people are tired of war and that they want a lasting peace in Afghanistan.

“We ask government and the Taliban to agree on a ceasefire from Ramadan and start peace negotiations during this time,” said Najibullah, an organizer of the rally.

“The situation is bad. People are not getting education due to insecurity. We should end violence,” Abdul Hameed, member of the really, said.

Other participants of the rally said poverty and illiteracy are two major reasons behind continued war and violence in Afghanistan.

“We want nothing, but an end to the war,” Nasim Ahmadzai, a protester, said.

“We want all warring parties to end violence and acquire their demands peacefully and through talks,” Mohammad Tariq Elham, a civil society activist, said.
