General John McCain, Chairman of Armed Services Committee of the United States Senate has said threats in Afghanistan are serious and in order to overcome the challenges, the U.S. President Donald Trump should support U.S. commanders in the country with necessary resources.
 
According to McCain, Washington is still fighting in Afghanistan; therefore, it should increase its presence in the country.
 
“President Trump has the opportunity to turn the page and finally give our commanders the resources and authorities they need to seize the initiative and take the fight to our enemies,” he said.
 
“Terrorism is not eliminated in Afghanistan and we need regional and international support,” said Mohammad Radmanesh, deputy spokesman of the Afghan Defense Ministry.
 
The U.S. President Trump has been in charge of Whitehouse since two months, but still he has not officially commented on the U.S. longest war.
 
U.S. drone strike, however, this week for the first time during Trump presidency targeted terrorists in Pakistani side of the Durand Line.
 
“The solution of the war is in Pakistan if they [U.S. government] want to end it here in Afghanistan,” the Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah’s advisor Daud Hassas said.
 
This comes after the Resolute Support Mission commander Gen. John Nicholson said last month that more foreign troops should be deployed to Afghanistan in order to support Afghan forces in the fight against terrorism.
