Modi Wishes Afghans For Celebrating 100 Years Of Independence

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended to the people of Afghanistan, who are celebrating 100 years of independence this year.

Addressing a ceremony on 73rd Independence Day, Mr. Modi said “Afghanistan is a good neighbor of India, and I wish the country for celebrating 100 years of independence this year.”

Independence Day is celebrated on August 19 every year.

Although Afghanistan was never part of the British Empire, it gained its independence from Britain after the signing of the Anglo-Afghan Treaty in 1919 – a treaty that granted complete neutral relations between Afghanistan and Britain.

India’s ANI reports that Mr. Modi condemned terrorism in its all forms.

“India is strongly fighting against those who are spreading terrorism,” Mr. Modi said. “Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka are also affected by terrorism. All countries in the world need to come together to fight this menace.”
