MP Wounded, His Bodyguard Killed In Kabul Roadside Blast

Fakuri Behishti, an MP for Bamiyan was wounded just after 9am local time Wednesday in PD6, Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul city after a roadside mine was detonated as he drove by.

Earlier reports indicated it had been a magnetic IED but officials later confirmed it had been a roadside mine. 

One of his bodyguards was reportedly killed in the incident, said an eyewitness.

According to a source close to Behishti, the MP is in serious condition in hospital after sustaining back injuries.

In addition, a number of people including his son, were also wounded in the incident. 

Behishti was reportedly on his way to parliament when the explosion happened.

The explosion caused considerable damage to the immediate area. 

So far no group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Police have also not yet commented.
