The People’s Peace Movement (PPM) on Friday ended their three-day sit-in protest outside Iran embassy in Kabul after submitting a letter to the diplomatic mission. 

The peace activists started their sit-in protest outside the UK embassy in Kabul on Friday afternoon. 

Addressing a press conference outside Iran embassy, members of the movement said they call on Iranians to pressure their government to stop interfering in Afghanistan’s issues. 

The activists said the Iranian government equips armed groups in Afghanistan and also promotes extremism. Such claims however repeatedly have been rejected by Tehran. 

“Iranian government is fueling this war and provides war equipment for armed groups because of its short-term interests. Also they promote regional, ethnicity and language-based divisions in Afghanistan under the name of religious assistance,” said Ghulam Sarwar Ghafari, a PPM member. 

“All of them (countries in the region) are experiencing the bad consequences of bloodshed in Afghanistan,” Hakim Khan, a member of the movement, said. 

The People’s Peace Movement during their sit-in protest outside the Iranian embassy had posted posters in the T-walls of the embassy in which they had accused Tehran of equipping insurgents and fueling war in Afghanistan. 

One People’s Peace Movement poster on the embassy’s T-wall reads “To the people of Iran! Your government is equipping militant groups in Afghanistan.” 

Another poster reads “To the people of Iran! Our water is saving your life but your government is taking our lives”.

Other posters of the movement on the T-wall read “To the people of Iran! The current situation in Afghanistan is bad for us but it is not beneficial for you as well.” 

Also “To the people of Iran! Put pressure on your government to participate in Afghan peace process.”

Attaullah Ibrahim Khail is a government employee in Kabul and had joined PPM a month ago. He said the spirit for peace is strengthening among the people day-by-day. 

“The demand for peace is increasing day-by-day. We hope that the world would realize that Afghans want peace, Afghans want their rights to be ensured and that we have to decide how to reach to peace,” said Ibrahim Khail. 

The peace activists have so far staged sit-in protests outside embassies of US, Russia, Pakistan, Iran and outside the UN office in Kabul.

The activists arrived in Kabul last month after walking for 38 days from Helmand.
