The Iranian Ambassador to Kabul Mohammad Reza Bahrami on Tuesday said bringing peace in Afghanistan by using military force is not possible and that Afghans themselves should lead the peace process. 

Bahrami made the remarks at the Young Ambassadors Conference in Kabul which was attended by young ambassadors from Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan and Pakistan. 

Addressing the conference, Bahrami said countries in the region should pave the ground for peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban. 

“Incumbent laws have definitely defined the routes for change if a change is supposed to happen. It is good that the route should not be violated and achievements should not be sacrificed for a non-transparent condition which there is no trust in it,” said Bahrami. 

Shahbaz Hussain Khan, deputy ambassador of Pakistan ambassador in Kabul, meanwhile said the peace talks should be lead and owned by Afghans and that the Afghan people and government should lead any peace agreement that they would reach with the Taliban. 

“Peace process has to be Afghan-owned and Afghan-led. And as my younger colleagues know that this terminology was basically started by Pakistan and we proposed that any peace agreement should be owned and should be led by Afghan people and Afghan government,”Khan said. 

Organizers of the event said the Young Ambassadors Conference, held by Mediothek Afghanistan, to provide a platform for the youth to talk on regional issues and get an understanding of regional ties. 

“Afghanistan should enhance its tourism and the international community should come  and see what a rich history and a rich culture Afghanistan has and how good people are living here,” Shahnaz Kamilzada, a young ambassador from Tajikistan said. 

They conference is held every year in one of the regional countries.
