Qaisar District Police Chief Arrested by Special Forces

Nizamuddin Qaisari, police chief of Qaisar district in Faryab province and a close aide to First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, was arrested by Special Forces on Monday afternoon in Faryab, a source from the 209 Shaheen Military Corps confirmed, but gave no details. 

Faryab provincial council head Mohammad Sami Khairkha told TOLOnews that Qaisari has  already been transferred to Kabul. 

Qaisari was also a commander of the public uprising forces in the province.

According to Khairkha, Qaisari was on Monday called to attend a security meeting at the 1st Regiment of the 209 Shaheen Army Corps, but when he arrived he was arrested by military forces. 

Khairkha said when the soldiers tried to arrest Qaisari, Qaisari's men opened fire on the security forces. He said four of Qaisari’s men were killed and three others were wounded.

The shooting happened inside the base, he said. 

Khairkha did not give details about why Qaisari was arrested. 

Khairkha also said supporters of the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan have gathered at the provincial office of the movement in the province and warned that if Qaisari is not freed, they will launch demonstrations on Tuesday.

Four of Qaisari ‘s men were reportedly killed in a gunfight with security forces inside the military base at the time of the arrest.
