Kandahar Police Chief Gen. Abdul Raziq responded to recent rumors about his removal from the position, saying that he has not been appointed by the government and that the state cannot remove him.

He made the remarks in an interview with a local radio station in Kandahar.

Raziq said the government is a coalition government and that the recent decisions of National Unity Government leaders are not in the country’s interest.

“This government has neither appointed me, nor it can remove me. I have been appointed based on the demands of Kandahar people and I will leave based on Kandahar residents’ demands,” Raziq said in the interview.

Raziq said the recent decisions by the government have distanced the people from the administration.

“This is not an elected government; it is a coalition government. Government’s acts are not tolerable,” he said.

This comes after Atta Mohammad Noor, the Balkh governor who was ousted by President Ghani, issued fresh warnings against the government.

“You, the minister of interior or you the minister defense, or you, the national security council, or you, the commander in chief; which one of you gave this order to the Corps to set their weapons to target our people?” Noor asked.

Meanwhile, in another interview with TOLOnews on Tuesday, Gen. Raziq warned that insecurity will increase if the government failed to have a strong will to eliminate Daesh.

He said Daesh activities are increasing every day.

“A number of signs which we see in the north and east or in the west, it seems that Daesh has lots of facilities and it is an oppressor terrorist group which will not have mercy on the people,” he said.

He said he will not allow the group to operate in Kandahar.

“We will not allow the group… The situation created by government will allow the enemy to reach their nefarious ends,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kandahar provincial council members claimed that government is more involved in “political games” rather than paying attention to security and other important matters.

“Government has fallen short when it comes to Kandahar. It has not provided the required support and plan to this place (Kandahar). Government should pay attention to the country instead of getting involved in disagreements,” said Attaullah Atta, member of Kandahar provincial council.

The remarks come after reports indicate that at least 26 Daesh fighters including French and Uzbek nationals in a recent air raid by Afghan forces in Jawzjan province – in the north of Afghanistan.
