Resolute Support to Help ANSF With Election Security

The US and NATO’s Resolute Support Mission (RS) Commander in Afghanistan Gen. Austin Scott Miller on Thursday said RS will help the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) plan for security during the upcoming elections.

Talking at a gathering in Panjshir province, Miller said "when I depart this time, I hope to leave a peaceful and unified Afghanistan".

“I want to be very clear; you have our support and our commitment,” said Miller.

Panjshir governor Kamaluddin Nizami meanwhile said the province is bordered by insecure Kapisa, Baghlan and Nuristan provinces and that insurgents are trying to influence Panjshir from these provinces to make it insecure.

“There are insecure provinces in our neighborhood and the enemy has been trying to destabilize our province,” said Nizami.

Panjshir officials urged Miller to provide more equipment and support to security forces in the province to enable them to address any threats against them.

The upcoming parliamentary elections will take place on October 20 and along with other challenges, security is being seen as one of the main problems.

Resolute Support has said in the past that it will stand by the Afghan forces in their quest to maintain security around elections.
