The Salang Pass, one of the country's main routes, was closed to traffic on Monday morning due to heavy snowfalls and avalanches on the southern side of the pass, the director of the Salang Pass Maintenance Authority, Gen. Mohammad Rajab said.
Rajab urged passengers to avoid traveling through the pass as long as the storm continues.
Rajab said that so far 10 avalanches have been recorded along the southern side of the pass and that eight groups of operators are currently trying to clear the road.
This comes as heavy snow storms moved across a large part of the country in the past few days, closing many highways.
