Taliban Suffer Heavy Casualties In Bati Kot Operations

Security officials in eastern Afghanistan have claimed that security forces killed and wounded over 200 Taliban fighters in Bati Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province in the past two months.

According to security officials, dozens of villages in the district were also cleared of the insurgents following operations which were also conducted in the Chahardehi region which had been a key Taliban stronghold.

“We are here to clear this village from the presence of terrorist groups so that people can live peacefully. We completely cleared Chahardehi village of Bati Kot of insurgents and restored peace there. Government forces weren’t harmed in this operation,” said Mohammad Karim Niazee, commander of the 4th Army Division of the 201st Selab Army Corps.

Meanwhile a number of residents in Bati Kot have welcomed the move by security forces to carry out operations.

They did however call on government to equip the public uprising forces so they can also fight the militants in the area. They also said the infrastructure in the area was nonexistent.

“Everything has been destroyed over the past fourteen years, nothing was built here including roads,” said one resident in Bati Kot Asghar.

“Whatever has been done here was done by the people, government did nothing and did not provide weapons to the people,” said another resident Naseer Ahmad.

Security officials have said that this is the first time in thirteen years that Chahardehi village is back under the control of government forces.
