Taliban Will Not Establish Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan: Dostum

The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, who is currently leading a military operation against the Taliban in Qoshtepa district of Jawzjan province, said on Thursday that war is not the solution and that the Taliban will not be able to establish an Islamic emirate.

"War is not the solution. The war that the Taliban is conducting, either with the support of foreigners or the circles from inside (government), will not be able to establish an Islamic emirate," said Dostum.

Meanwhile he called on all countries supporting terrorists to stop what they are doing.

Dostum said that the Taliban is fighting for the sake of money and that he is prepared to pay them to stop the war.

Security officials said that Qoshtepa district of Jawzjan has been cleared of insurgents.

They said the insurgents had hideouts in the area and that they blocked all the routes for the government forces.

"Three times we attacked but we could not pass this area but when the vice president arrived and with the help of Allah, we made lots of progress," said one of the soldiers.

"For 19 days we resisted here and by Allah's grace we did not have casualties but we brought heavy casualties to the Taliban," said another soldier.

Residents of the Qoshtepa districts of the Jawzjan province warmly welcomed the government forces and praised their actions.

"Taliban were collecting charity (Usher and Zakat) and they were harassing people," said Momen, one of the Qoshtepa district residents.

With the arrival of Dostum and security forces the Taliban reportedly fled the area. Officials said, Qoshtepa district of Jawozjan has been cleared of insurgents and the all the routes for are reopened.
