Three Resolute Support Soldiers Killed During Parwan Patrol

Three Resolute Support service members were killed by a suicide bomber during a combined, dismounted patrol with Afghan forces in Parwan province early Sunday morning.

Czech Republic Ministry of Defense confirmed later in the day that three of its soldiers were killed the suicide bombing that targeted Resolute Support members and Afghan National Army soldiers who were on patrol in Parwan's provincial capital early Sunday morning.

According to a statement issued by Resolute Support, US Forces-Afghanistan acknowledged an American soldier and two Afghan National Army soldiers were also wounded in the explosion.

“My thoughts and prayers, along with those of all of the 41-contributing Resolute Support nations, are with the families and friends of our fallen and wounded service members, and our injured Afghan brothers and their families,” said US Army Gen. John Nicholson, Resolute Support and US Forces-Afghanistan commander.

“Their sacrifice will endure in both our hearts and history, and further strengthen our resolve.”

Parwan officials confirmed early Sunday that a suicide bomber had targeted foreign forces in the province.  

Wahida Shahkar, spokeswoman for the Parwan governor, said the attack happened at around 6am local time when the soldiers were on patrol in the Khala Zai area of Parwan.

According to Shahkar there were no civilian casualties. 

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

Resolute Support confirmed the incident and said an American and two Afghan soldiers were also wounded in the attack.
