At least three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers were killed in clashes with the Taliban in northern Sar-e-Pul province on Monday night, local officials confirmed on Tuesday.
In addition, five other soldiers were wounded.
The clashes took place after the Talban attacked security check posts in Qaflatoon village, in Sar-e-Pul city, and opened fire on security forces, Mohammad Hanif Rezayee, a spokesman for 209 Shaheen Army Corps said.
“The Taliban has also suffered casualties but there is no exact information about their casualties yet,” Rezayee said.
In the meantime, sources told TOLOnews that the security forces have suffered heavy casualties and a number of villages in the provincial center have fallen to the Taliban.
