ACCI Registers 22 Kidnapping Cases In Two Months

Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries says it has registered 22 cases of kidnapping plus robberies against business owners in the past two months in the country.

Deputy head of the ACCI Khanjan Alokozai said the incidents have a huge impact on the economy and on investment in the country.

“Government should prevent kidnappings because it is one of the main challenges for businessmen,” he said.

He said some kidnapping groups are aware of how much business owners have in the bank before they kidnap their target.

“A few days ago, a gold seller was abducted from Kart-e-Parwan area (in Kabul) and a money exchanger was abducted by kidnappers but there has been no information about him for the past year,” the Head of Money Exchangers Union, Sherin Aqa, said.

The Ministry of Interior meanwhile stressed the need for the security of investors to be ensured and said the security agency has enough forces for this purpose.

“We have met with investors many times and have told them that if needed, they can be provided with as many forces as they want in order to ensure their safety,” the interior ministry’s spokesman Najib Danish said.
