The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) is assessing complaints about misuse of government assets by members of a number of presidential election campaign teams, a member of the electoral body said.

The commission is expected to release the results of its assessments within the next few days.

“Complaints are different and they are under our assessment. The complaints include misuse of government resources,” said Sayed Qutbuddin Roidar, member of the IECC.

He said that some complaints were about pre-election campaigns.

“If someone has a document about government’s interference, it is good that they can submit it with evidence,” said Zabiullah Sadat, s spokesman for Independent Election Commission.

Electoral observers said that some presidential election campaign teams are manipulating government resources for campaign purposes.

“There are direct and indirect relations between the candidates and the commissioners,” said Mohammad Naeem Ayubzada, head of Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan.

“They [members of election commissions] do not want to spoil their ties with the elections campaigns because they have got votes because there are some types of dependency despite they claim to be independent,” said Yusuf Rasheed, head of Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan.

The election commission’s spokesman says they are ready to receive complaints relevant to campaigns.
