17 Members Of Public Uprising Force Killed In Balkh

Seventeen members of the public uprising forces and a local police commander were killed in an attack by the Taliban in Balkh province, local officials said Sunday. 

Sarajuddin Abid, the district governor of Sholgara, said the incident happened Saturday night when a group of Taliban militants attacked a party in Buzboi village in the district where they shot dead eighteen people. 

He said initial information indicates that the host of the party had links with the Taliban. He said the host left the area during the Taliban attack. 

Abdul Raziq Qaderi, head of security department of Balkh police headquarters, also confirmed the incident and casualties. 

He said the security of the village was under the control of public uprising forces. 

The village is located 40 kilometers from the center of Sholgara district. 

The village shares border with Sancharak district in Sar-e-Pul province, in the north of Afghanistan, which is a vulnerable area in terms of insurgent activities. 

Police did not provide more details about the incident. 

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
