China Offers Assistance To Afghan Peace Process

China wants to provide assistance to the Afghan peace process as its capacity allowed, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said.

The Chinese official welcomed President Ashraf Ghani’s peace offer to the Taliban, the APP reported.

“China is willing to provide assistance to the Afghan reconciliation and peaceful reconstruction process as our capacity allows," Hua Chunying said.

She said China has often supported an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.

She said China calls on involved parties in Afghanistan to address their difference through dialogue and consultation, the report said.

Hua said China appreciates the efforts made by the Afghan government and President Asharf Ghani for reconciliation.

“We hope all relevant parties can work for the shared goal, enhance dialogue and consultations, discard difference and achieve the lasting peace, development and stability in Afghanistan as well as possible," she added.

This comes after Kabul hosted the second Kabul Process conference on Wednesday in which the Afghan government sent a peace offer to the Taliban.

The Kabul Process meeting was a gathering of 25 nations and organizations including the EU, UN and NATO, and discussed ways to attain peace and stability in the country.
