Commandos May Not Be ‘Exploited’: CEO’s Office

The Office of the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah on Wednesday said no one may exploit the Commando forces or any other security forces for their own personal or political motives.

However, the CEO’s deputy spokesman did not say what group or person they were referring to but noted that the political exploitation of the Commandos and other security institutions is not in the nation’s interests.

“Any use of the defense and security forces for personal and political interests could have serious consequences and it is also in contradiction of the prevailing laws of the country,” said the CEO’s deputy spokesman Omid Maisam.

Recently, supporters of Nizamuddin Qaisari, the district police chief for Qaisar, who is currently in custody, accused the central government of exploiting the Commando forces.

This came after Qaisari’s arrest, the alleged raid on his house and the arrest of his bodyguards.

“If the Commando forces are involved in such issues, then their main job which is the defense and protection of the people of Afghanistan will be overshadowed,” said former military officer Mohammad Agul Mujahid.

But officials from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) reject the allegations of the Commandos having been used outside their jurisdiction.

“Commandos are not being used for political purposes,” said MoD spokesman Mohammad Radmanish.

The Afghan National Army Commando Corps is an elite special operations commando unit that has been playing a crucial role in suppressing  insurgents on the battlefields.

They have been hailed for saving strategic regions in Afghanistan that were on the verge of collapsing to the Taliban.

Qaisari was arrested in Faryab earlier this month after allegedly insulting security officials. Reports also indicated that about 20 of his bodyguards were arrested.
