Abdul Malik Nizami, the police chief for Sayyad district of Sar-e-Pul province, was killed in a clash with Taliban militants on Monday night, the provincial governor confirmed.
Abdul Qadir Ashna, governor of Sar-e-Pul, said five police force members were killed and seven others were wounded in the attack.
The clash happened after Taliban attacked Sayyad district, he said.
The governor said that 13 Taliban militants were also killed and three other wounded in the fighting.
Taliban has not commented on the incident.
