Joint Afghan-foreign joint airstrike in Darzab district kills more than 26 Daesh militants at gathering.
French, Uzbek Daesh Militants Killed in Jawzjan Air Operation
At least 26 Daesh militants including four French and three Uzbekistan citizens were killed in joint Afghan and foreign forces airstrike on Monday in Jawzjan province, local officials said Tuesday.
According to the officials, the strike was conducted on Monday evening in Darzab district when Daesh militants were gathered in Alkhani village of the district.
Jawzjan police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani also confirmed the death of seven foreign Daesh fighters in the strike.
“An airstrike was conducted as Daesh militants had a big gathering. The strike was successful and more than 26 militants, including their key commanders, were killed,” said Jawzjani.
Three French and four Uzbekistan fighters were killed in the strike.
“Three French citizens and four Uzbekistan citizens are among the deaths,” Jawzjani added.
According to the police chief, two civilians were also killed in the airstrike.
Darzab district of Jawzjan province is one the most insecure districts in the north and located 100km of Sheberghan capital of Jawzjan province. Daesh is highly active in the district.
