Kabul Residents Celebrate Nawroz Differently

Kabul residents on Thursday celebrated Nawroz, the first day of the new solar year, by performing traditional dances, music and an exhibition of women's handicrafts.

The event was held by Ministry of Information and Culture aimed at reviving the ancient values and heritage of Nawroz.

“Nawroz is Afghanistan’s cultural heritage which has a long history and does not support any idea and it is only because of the evolution of the nature. We celebrate Nawroz regardless of who accepts and who does not,” said Rasul Bawari, deputy minister of information and culture.

Those who attended the ceremony said they hope that the day will be celebrated in a more peaceful environment next year.

“Nawroz is a happy incident and we are really happy to see people are celebrating it peacefully,” said Sayed Gawhar Monawari, a Kabul resident.

“We came here for picnic and celebration of Nawroz. It is pleasant for me to see the people of my country are happy,” said Farkhunda, a Kabul resident.

They urged government to take steps for securing security of their provinces to help them hold exhibitions there.

“Our exhibition will be opened for two days at Babur’s Garden and then we will hold it at Badam Bagh for another six days. Our products have customers from inside and outside Afghanistan,” said Fatana Bayat, the owner of a women’s handicrafts company in Kabul.
