Newly-Appointed Governor ‘Has No Problem With Noor’

Mohammad Dawood, the newly-appointed governor of Balkh, who visited the province on Tuesday evening, says he does not have a problem with Atta Mohammad Noor, who was ousted from the provincial office by the president in December.

Dawood, who was appointed to the position by Ghani, said he was in Balkh to attend the funeral of his father.

In terms of taking over as governor, he said he is waiting for government’s decision, once talks between government and Jamiat-e-Islami have wrapped up.

“My job belongs to the central government and to the agreements of Mr. Noor with the central government. There is no issue between us (him and Noor),” he said.

“I will go to the office (in Balkh) when the people and the government decide.”

Meanwhile, Rahmatullah Fitrat, spokesman for Dawood, said on Wednesday he has resigned from his post and claims that the Presidential Palace is using Dawood as a tool “for its goals”.

“Mr. engineer Mohammad Dawood is a burnt tool of the individuals in ARG (Presidential Palace). He does not know what is going on behind the scenes,” he said.

“Mr. engineer is actually not aware of the big plans which are led by ARG which include destabilizing the north.”

Dawood landed in Balkh Airport on Tuesday night and was accompanied by police force members to his residence in the province.

There are reports which indicate that Dawood agreed with Noor that he would enter the province without his bodyguards.
