Qatari Emir, Pakistan’s Army Chief Discuss Afghan Peace

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani on Monday held talks with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa in Qatar where the emir appreciated Pakistan’s role for Afghan stability, Pakistani media reported on Tuesday.  

The discussions held between the two included matters related to achieving a negotiated end to the Afghanistan conflict, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

According to the statement, Pakistan’s army chief thanked Qatar’s continued support towards a negotiated political settlement for peace in Afghanistan.

The meeting took place as Bajwa visited Qatar and attended the National Day Parade of Qatar, the statement said.

This comes as US and Taliban officials held talks on Afghan peace in Abu Dhabi. 

The discussions kicked off on Sunday in which the attendees discussed Afghanistan war and peace.

According to sources close to Taliban officials, members of the leadership team of Taliban including Abbas Satnekzai, head of Taliban’s Qatar office; Salam Hanifi, Deputy Minister of Education; Din Mohammad Hanif, Planning Minister; Khairullah Khairkhaw, Minister of Interior; Mohammad Fazl, Army Chief of the Taliban and Deputy Defense Minister during Taliban regime; and Mawlawi Ahmaddullah, acting chief of Taliban Council in Kabul.
