The Kunduz fight has been pushed back almost two kilometers from the city as the battle entered its seventh day on Wednesday, soldiers on the frontline of the battlefield told TOLOnews. 

However, the Kunduz-Takhar Highway is still closed to traffic due to ongoing clashes between Afghan forces and the Taliban in the province.

TOLOnews reporter Karim Amini said four out of nine districts of Kunduz are under control of Taliban and that the five remaining districts of the province are faced with high and medium security threats.

“We cannot say what is going on from Charkhab area [the exit gate of Kunduz city] onwards. We don’t know whether there are security forces or militants,” said Qudratullah, a resident of Kunduz.

“We were stuck for four days. We evacuated our families yesterday [Tuesday]. We were under threat by the Taliban,” said Abid, another resident of the province. 

Amini meanwhile reported that the security forces retook a police outpost from the Taliban on Wednesday. 

Security forces at the outpost said Taliban militants had fired on them from different sides and they were faced with a lack of equipment and food but they managed to defend themselves.

“We endured serious conditions. We were under threat by the enemy. The battle started early Friday morning and we were under siege until today [Wednesday]. No help arrived,” said Jan Aqa, a commander of the Afghan National Civil Order Police.

According to Amini the Taliban is active in 20 villages – including Zakhail, Omarkhail, Alikhail, Hazrat Sultan and Kanam.

He said this time the Taliban started their attacks from Naseriha village and Charkhab area close to Kunduz city’s exit gate and Kunduz-Takhar Highway.
