Taliban Kill Tribal Elder For Awarding Trump A Medal

One of the men in Logar province who awarded a ‘medal of bravery’ to US President Donald Trump, was killed on Sunday in Pul-e-Alam city, the provincial capital.

The man named Haji Gul Nabi was a tribal elder.

A Taliban spokesman said in an interview with a media outlet in Logar that the group killed Gul Nabi for having awarded a medal to Trump.

“We are very sad. He was a good man and a tribal elder. He was killed in Ramadan. People say that he was killed because of this issue (awarding medal to trump),” Abdul Wali, a member of Logar provincial council said.

A number of local journalists from Logar said Taliban has claimed responsibility for the death of the tribal elder because of the move to award the medal to Trump.

“Government has the responsibility to maintain people’s security and it should take serious action,” Abdul Rahimzai, secretary of Logar provincial council said.

Logar officials have not commented on the issue.

Some residents of Logar province awarded the ‘medal of bravery’ to Trump over his firm stance against Pakistan.

In early January, in a tweet, Trump accused Pakistan of giving nothing to the United States but "lies and deceit" and providing "safe havens" to terrorists in return for $33 billion aid over the last 15 years.

Quoted by VOA, Sayed Farhad Akbari a tribal elder in Logar province, said residents and farmers of the province recently collected at least $700 USD dollars to make the medal.

Akbari said they made the medal with 15 grams of gold.

He said the bravery award was handed to the US Embassy in Kabul on Saturday.

He added that the US Ambassador in Kabul John R. Bass has promised that he will soon hand over the medal to Trump.

After Trump’s tweet on Pakistan, Washington announced that it would suspend almost all security assistance to Pakistan, which could affect at least $1.3 billion USD in annual aid.
