Twin Bombings Target Helmand

Three military personnel were killed in two explosions that were carried out in Helmand in Saturday.

Two car bombs detonated on Saturday morning leaving at least three people dead.

The bombings happened in Nad Ali district and Lashkargah city of Helmand province, local officials said.

Helmand provincial governor’s spokesman Omar Zowak confirmed the blasts and said that three soldiers were killed, and 10 others were wounded.

“Unfortunately, this morning two car bombs, one in Matki area of Nad Ali district and the second one in Lashkargah city were detonated,” Zowak said.

According to Zowak the first car bomb targeted an army camp and three soldiers were killed and two others were wounded.

“In the second incident in Kart-e-Lagan area of Lashkargah city in PD2 including women and children eight people were wounded,” Zowak added.

The second car bomb was detonated nearly three hours after the first explosion and was close to an NDS office. Residents said a Mazda vehicle had been used.

“In the morning I was coming home when I heard the blast then I don’t remember, women and children wounded in the incident because many civilian houses are here and the enemy don’t want us to live in calm and peace,” said Ali Shah, a resident.

Local officials said that in the second car bombing one soldier was killed and ten others including women and children were wounded.

Taliban claimed responsibility for both attacks in Helmand.

These two explosions were in addition to Saturday morning’s blast in Kabul in PD9, in Shashdarak area, that  killed three and wounded five others, the MoI confirmed.
