Balkh Art Exhibition Portrays Women’s Empowerment

At least 50 paintings were displayed at a one-day street exhibition in Mazar city in the northern Balkh province on Thursday.

The exhibition, titled “The lady beyond the history”, was aimed at supporting women’s rights and highlighting their abilities in arts, organizers of the event said.

“The message of this exhibition is that a woman can and does have the ability to save a society,” said Rahima Yazdani, an organizer.

Many of the 50 paintings were about women and how they live in Afghan society.

“Anyone who has the will can play a role in society,” said Faiza Husaini, an artist.

Those who visited the exhibition said they appreciate such initiatives by Balkh women.

“It is exciting to see women are holding such an exhibition,” said Sajjad, a Balkh resident.

“It shows that women want to grow, they want to take an active part in this society,” said Fazila, another resident.

It is the second exhibition in the past two months which has been held by women to empower their role in Afghan society.
