Herat Hosts Afghanistan-Turkey Photo Exhibition

At least 100 photos that show the history of Afghanistan and Turkey’s friendship went on display at an exhibition in Herat province, in the west of the country, on Tuesday.

Head of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Herat, Ali Arghon Chinar, said the photos date back 100 years and have been brought to Afghanistan from Turkey’s national archive.

The photos have been taken in different parts of Afghanistan.

In one of the photos, there is King Amanullah Khan and the first ambassador of Turkey to Afghanistan General Fakhruddin.

In the photo, Amanullah Khan has the Turkish flag and the Turkish ambassador has the Afghan flag.

“Our relationship is very important and dates back a long time and you can see it in these photos. We are trying to display other signs of Afghanistan-Turkey time-tested ties,” Chinar said.

Visitors meanwhile said the photos will strengthen the Afghanistan-Turkey relationship and will help the people of the two nations to feel closer.

“These photos tell us about the history and historical relationship between the people of Afghanistan and Turkey and this friendship will be transferred to the next generation as it is,” Marya Bashir, a civil society activist said

“In these photos, I felt a deep and friendly relation between the people and governments of Afghanistan and Turkey. I hope that this friendship remains for a long time and strengthens every day,” Mohammad Ismail Kohan, a visitor said.

Among the photos are pictures of former kings of Afghanistan and Mahmoud Tarzi, known as the father of Afghanistan’s journalism. They date back 100 years and have been taken by Turkish photographers.
